Born in France in 1944 Claude Champy graduated from École parisienne des métiers d’art, where he initially worked in pottery production. Upon leaving the factory he decided to devote himself to his own artistic practise. Champy’s developed personal techniques and his work is often characterised by his use of black and white glaze, stoneware clay and some use of soda.

Since 1979, he has been regularly exhibiting abroad and in 1988, he received the Grand Prize of the Suntory Museum in Tokyo.
